Truckers need to keep their energy levels up for long hours while they're cooped up in their cabs. Trucker culture has developed a number of common ways to keep blood pumping to their brains. Many use short wave radio to chat with other truckers. Others blast loud music to keep themselves focused, often spending some of their paychecks on great sound systems and satellite radio. Some drink a lot of coffee or bang caffeine pills. Still others turn to illicit stimulants to maintain their focus.
No matter what you do as a trucker to keep your driving steady, you should focus on keeping in good health. Too many truckers end up having their careers cut short when they burn out because of physical and mental stress exacerbated by poor health practices. Steer clear of unhealthy food, but don't starve yourself either. Look at complex starches and other carbohydrates to maintain a steady energy level throughout the day. Look into natural supplements like ginseng to give yourself a boost without turning to drugs that have bad side effects.
Maintaining good hydration is important particularly if you use a good deal of caffeine to stay wired. It has a strong diuretic effect, making it far more challenging for your body to hold water. Taken in large quantities, it can leave your body in a permanent state of dehydration, which could actually harm your overall energy level. The best way to remain energetic is to get regular exercise and to sleep from six to eight hours per day.
