Pets in the Cab

Being on the road can be lonely, but there's one advantage truckers have that most other people don't: They can often keep a pet or two with them in the cab. Not all companies are lenient about this sort of thing, and even the ones that allow it will usually demand a deposit of some kind. However, it's a good thing if you can work for a company that allows you to take a dog or a cat with you.

There are a lot of benefits to owning a pet. People who own pets usually experience less headaches and have lower blood pressure. A pet can help keep stress at bay and keep you from getting lonely. And since your pet needs time to run around, you'll get more exercise during your stops and stay healthier.

But there are also disadvantages to keeping a pet in the cab. Pets can sometimes get sick, and your company may not be so understanding if you don't stick to your schedule because you had to take your dog or cat to a veterinarian. Making sure your pet stays healthy in the first place should be a priority. Also, you need to be prepared for the worst-case scenario. If for some reason you suddenly lose your job and find yourself stranded somewhere, you're going to have a hard time getting both yourself and your pet back home unless you can afford to pay a lot money for transportation. You'll also need to make sure your pet stays clean and doesn't do its business in the cab; however, most pets should learn to adjust to a schedule.

Many truckers love having pets as traveling companions. For them, the rewards far outweigh whatever the disadvantages are.
