As a truck driver, you are part of one of the most unhealthy professions in America. This is understandable, though. Tight deadlines for shipments and docking, unearthly hours, and too often the serious lack of variety when it comes to food choice and meal times, combined with sitting in one position for hours at a time do not make it easy for any truck driver to keep the best figure for long.
However, by just taking a little time each day and planning ahead every week, you can still make a big difference in your health and your waistline by the end of the year.
The following health tips aren’t anything new or profound or tips that just apply to truck drivers, for that matter. In fact, they’re basically the same health codes that apply to just about everyone, no matter what their profession.
It is estimated that unwashed hands are the cause of 40 percent of flus and colds contacted every year by the American public. Wash your hands! If you stop and think about it, you’ll realize that all the many things you touch each day are covered in bacteria. You don’t need to be paranoid, but just taking the 15 seconds to wash your hands can make the difference between you suffering through a wretched 2 weeks of blocked nasal cavities and a sore throat or not.
Buying healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables to eat between breaks will cut down on your hunger when you pull into that fast food joint and help you order more healthy options, such as deli sandwiches or salads.
Also, although you might regard your coffee as a lifeline to keep you awake at night, cutting back on that, as well as other sugary drinks as much as possible, will also help cut down on extra calories you don’t need.
