It is very difficult for Over the Road (OTR) truckers to fit in time for proper health, nutrition and fitness. The majority of their days are spent driving and figuring out the fastest and safest routes to get their cargo to the public at large. The quickest meals can be found at any national fast food joint and exercise, well that usually involves getting out of the cab to gas up or go to the bathroom.
Americans are becoming increasingly aware of what we put into our bodies as fuel and what that fuel does to and for us. As such, even truckers are looking to gain insight on how to take good care of their bodies. In this article we will outline some ways that truckers can get fast nutritious meals and fit in time for regular exercise.
If you want something nutritious and quick, check out the menu at your favorite fast food joint. Most of them have been adding salads, fruits and yogurt to their menus. You can always get water in place of a soda as well. If you have 15-30 minutes to spare, stop at a grocery store and stock up on fresh fruits and veggies for in-between meal snacks. Also, never pass a Subway without picking up a whole wheat sub.
When it comes to fitting in the time for fitness, you really will just have to make the time. Even if you park to sleep over night and run around the cab and trailer ten times before taking off in the morning. You also may have noticed that most highway rest stops are on a certain amount of acreage. This land is usually backed by woods or fields. Make the time to take a walk, even if you can only dedicate 20 minutes to it, which is enough time to raise your heart rate.
