Not all truck drivers drive local, leaving them on the road for miles and miles, and weeks at a time. Some truckers have their best friend travel with them! Driving with a small dog in the cab can be very beneficial to cross-country drivers.
When a driver and dog bond, there is much to be said for the benefits for both. As the miles seem to get longer, the two can interact with one another, breaking the monotony of the long road. The dog is going to have to use the bathroom, which will force the driver to have to make more frequent stops, allowing the dog and driver to get out of the truck and stretch and relax a few minutes. Taking the dog for walks will give the driver and the dog exercise, which is important for blood circulation after sitting for long periods of time.
If the driver has health issues, the dog will become alert to the change in the driver’s body chemistry and alert them of the change. Dogs have a keen sense to change and often know when there is a problem before the human realizes it. If one’s blood sugar drops or blood pressure gets too high, the dog will recognize it and alert the individual. Should something like this happen, the dog could prevent an accident from happening, and possibly save its owner’s life.
Dogs traveling in a vehicle are great security alarms should something happen while sleeping. They will alert you if someone is messing around your vehicle or something is wrong. Having a traveling partner is not a bad idea, and can be lots of fun!
