Eating Right and Exercising For The Trucker
Since being a truck driver entails long hours behind the wheel and not much time to exercise or eat right, it is very important for a truck driver to plan what they will eat and when. Keeping a food log is the first step in taking a look at what you are actually eating and how much you consume. Once you are able to take a look at your diet, you will be able to make changes from there.
Keep in mind that changing your diet can change your attitude and your self image. Keeping this in mind, you will want to make sure you are eating every four to five hours. This will keep your mind and body balanced and functioning properly. When you do eat, make sure you are eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Stay away from processed foods and foods with large amounts of sugar. Limit your servings and portion sizes. When you need a snack, eat things like yogurt, nuts, or a couple of peanut butter crackers. Most importantly, make sure to drink plenty of water.
Incorporating some type of exercise into your day will not only make you feel better, it will also take off some weight. Use your layover times to walk, do some stretching, bike ride, or lifting some weights. A bike will fit on a truck and you can even buy bikes that fold up. Many truckers have a dog that travels with them. A walk will be very beneficial and enjoyable for both you and your dog. Start your walks with what you can do and then, in time, increase both the distance and intensity of your walking. Before you know it, you will be able to go for runs.
